I went to sleep that night wondering, 'Is there ever an opportunity to take the image I want when there are no cars on the road?' The morning was fast approaching and soon my question would be answered. I had a rough idea of the shot I wanted as well as where it'd be, but I needed time in the morning to ensure I got the right location as well as having time to get set-up. I got it!Īfter arriving in the area the night before, I found a place to catch a few ZZZs and set my alarm for 0430 a.m. I wanted a sunrise image looking down highway 163 towards Monument Valley. I recently got the opportunity to travel through the area and knew exactly what shot I wanted. If we ever get back to Monument Valley we'll be sure to look up Harry and ask for him to guide us on another adventure.Monument Valley is just one of those places that you have to see to appreciate. He also pointed out interesting angles to photograph the famous rock formations, which turned out to be some of my favorite photographs. Because Harry was also a photographer we had an enjoyable time discussing our Nikon cameras. By that time most of the storm had passed so we set out on our next adventure. This time a huge sandstorm was brewing so we all decided to regroup at 6pm.

AMAZING!!!! The next day Harry was to meet us in the hotel lobby at 5pm to take us on a 4-hour late afternoon/sunset tour. Yes he had a flashlight, but it was pitch dark outside and he found them. After searching the vehicle, Harry drove back to the Totem Pole, found the exact area where he had parked, found their footprints and saved the day by finding the glasses. After we left that area and drove to our next stop my husband noticed that his prescription glasses (which had been on a lanyard around his neck) were missing.

Harry took us out to the Totem Pole to capture the full moon rising. Our first night in Monument Valley we went on the 3 hour Starlight/full moon tour. My husband and I are amateur photographers so we took two photography tours with Harry Nez as our Navajo guide.

One of the most photographed rocks is the Yei Bi Chei, which resembles a line of tribal dancers. Located on a Navajo Reservation and considered sacred by Native American tribes, the multi-hued sandstone park can be tough to navigate alone. You'll have access to parts of the park that are off-limits to smaller cars. Your guide meets you in the lobby of your hotel, where you'll prepare for a scenic drive to Monument Valley in an all-terrain vehicle.
